Donald L. Bryant, Jr., is driven by the pursuit excellence and realizing the full potential of his extraordinary Pritchard Hill estate. Investing in his passion for wine, the St. Louis businessman acquired the 13-acre vineyard overlooking Lake Hennessey in the late 1980s and replanted it with 100% Cabernet Sauvignon using modern viticulture practices. The first vintage was released in 1992, and soon after Bryant Family Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon won critical acclaim and became internationally recognized as a world-class wine. Don Bryant’s goal is to celebrate the first-growth vineyard terroir while paying homage to the great winemaking traditions of Bordeaux.
Proprietor and President
Bettina Bryant was appointed President of Bryant Family Vineyard in 2014, after serving as Vice President for more than five years. Dedicated to maintaining the legacy her husband Don has created at Bryant Family Vineyard, her varied prior experience as a film producer, art curator, performing artist and business consultant provide her with extensive knowledge and skill in executive management, strategic business development as well as an appreciation for the artistic considerations of the winemaking process. Bettina is committed to ensuring stylistic consistency and producing wines of the highest quality.
Michel Rolland has been a valued member of the Bryant Family Vineyard team for more than 10 years. Considered the most esteemed wine consultant in the world, Rolland provides a wealth of experience, an outside perspective, as well as expert palate. His exceptional talent in the blending process has solidified the Bryant Family Vineyard signature style.
David Abreu is a third generation Napa Valley native whose interest in farming dates back to his youth. He founded David Abreu Vineyard Management in 1980, and has since built a reputation for meticulous vineyard care with the sole aim of making the best wine possible from any given site. With more than 12 years working with our vineyard, David and his team have intimate experience with the property and farm it to perfection. David’s knowledge, standard of excellence and superb palate make him a tremendous asset to the Bryant Family Vineyard team.
Appointed Bryant Family Vineyard’s winemaker in 2014, Marc Gagnon’s experience spans two continents and several world-class wineries. He has worked alongside some of the world’s most highly renowned winemakers and consultants, including Michel Rolland, Thomas Rivers Brown, Andy Erickson and Nick Gislason. Most recently, Marc was the Assistant Winemaker for Screaming Eagle and has also held winemaking positions New Zealand’s Craggy Range and Napa’s Round Pond Winery. He has a deep appreciation for the Bryant vineyard and is honored to play a significant role in the winery’s continuing legacy. He received a Bachelor’s of Science Viticulture and Enology from the University of California at Davis, graduating with Honors and receiving the Wine Spectator Heritage Mentorship. Marc also holds Bachelor of Arts in Art History from Santa Clara University.
Lindsey Wallingford joined Bryant Family Vineyard as Enologist in 2016. With nine years of experience in wineries and vineyards along the West Coast of the United States, Australia, and New Zealand she is humbled to be working with such an experienced team to produce wines that are the purist expression of their terrior. Her prior work experience includes Screaming Eagle Vineyards, Green Flash Brewing Co., Siduri Wines, Paul Hobbs Consulting, and Pisoni Vineyards, among others. Lindsey received a Bachelor’s of Science Viticulture and Enology from Washington State University where she served as Viticulture and Enology Club President and was a scholarship athlete.
Howard Smith was appointed General Manager of Bryant Family Vineyard in 2014. His responsibilities cover the full scope of operations from production to sales, including personnel management, finance and customer service. An Alabama native, Smith pursued his passion for wine earning a Certificate in Winemaking from the University of California Davis and working as a cellar intern at Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars in 2008. He returned to Stag’s Leap in 2009 to work as a maturity sampler and stayed until mid-2011 as a cellar worker. In 2012, Smith and his wife moved to Napa permanently. Prior to joining Bryant Family Vineyard, Smith worked for Alabama-based family businesses Smith Farm & Forest Company and H, D & D Land Company. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from The University of the South.
Sales and Office Administrator
A Napa native, Sharon Bishop began her career working in hotels throughout the valley. It was during that time, she discovered her true passion was in the wine industry. Prior to joining Bryant Family Vineyard in 2016, Sharon worked as the Wine Club Manager at Truchard Vineyards and as the Assistant Wine Club Manager at O’Brien Estate. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with an emphasis in Marketing from Sonoma State University.
A Napa Valley native, Joe Welch joined the Bryant Family Vineyard team in 2011 after a career in construction. Joe assists the team with harvest and cellar duties, and has been particularly indispensable with his mechanical and facility maintenance skills.
